Eva Longoria Baston

Eva Longoria was born in Corpus Christi Texas to Tejano parents. The former Miss Corpus Christi USA (1998) has appeared in numerous televisions shows, including Desperate Housewives and Telenovela, produced the all-Latina show Devious Maids, and is a spokesperson for L’Oréal.

Kid Cudi

Born Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi in Cleveland, Kid Cudi is rapper/singer/songwriter/record producer/actor. He gets his Chicano ancestry from his Afro-Mexican father, Lindberg Styles Mescudi.

Becky G

Becky G was born Rebecca Marie Gomez in Inglewood, California. The singer and actress’ parents are the children of immigrants from Jalisco, Mexico, also making them Chicanxs.

Robert Rodriguez

Robert Rodriguez is a filmmaker, working on such movies as The Mexico Trilogy (El Mariachi, Desperado, and Once Upon a Time in Mexico), and the Spy Kids series. He was born in San Antonio, Texas.

Afro-Latina actress Tessa Thompson has appeared in several films and television shows, including Dear White People, Selma, Mississippi Damned, and For Colored Girls. She is Mexican and European on her mother’s side, and Afro-Panamanian on her father’s.

Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez, who was named after another Chicana star, was born in Grand Prairie, Texas. The actress, singer, and producer’s father, Ricardo Joel Gomez, is also Chicano.

Linda Ronstadt

Chicana Linda Ronstadt was born in Tucson, Arizona. Her father, Gilbert, was Mexican (from Sonora), German, and English. Linda is a musical legend, receiving both the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

Edward James Olmos

Edward James Olmos has served as one of the main faces of Latinos in film for over 40 years. The L.A.-born actor and director has appeared in classics, including Stand and Deliver, American Me, and My Family/Mi Familia.

Oscar de la Hoya

Oscar de la Hoya made sure everyone knew he was Chicano. The East L.A.-born former boxer, boxing promoter, and MMA promoter would wear a boxing robe, and trunks that featured the Mexico flag on one side, and the United States flag on the other. De la Hoya won Olympic gold in the 1992 games, and five boxing titles during his career.

Aaron Sanchez


If someone knows Mexican food, it’s Chef Aaron Sanchez. You might have seen the El Paso native on his shows Masterchef US, Chopped, Chopped Jr., and Taco Trip, read one of his cookbooks, seen him give his opinion in the “Food Feuds: Latin Food” Coca-Cola commercial, or been to his New Orleans restaurant Johnny Sanchez.

Christian Serratos
