Maria Brito attended Católica University in Caracas and earned a law degree from Harvard Law School before deciding that law was not what she wanted to do. Instead, she put her love for collecting vintage furniture and antiques to use and became an interior decorator based in New York City.
Brito grew up in Caracas, Venezuela, as the only child in a middle-class family. After her parents divorced when she was 12, she lived with her mother, who always stressed the idea of a self-sufficient woman.
A contemporary art aficionado, she now shares her exceptional home decor advice with clients such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Sean Combs (P. Diddy) who praises her art expertise, other celebrities, CEOs, and prominent entrepreneurs. They continue to work with and appreciate her “Lifestyling by Maria Gabriela Brito” interior design company.
Maria inspires her clients to create a unique and uplifting home showcase with a focus on investing in contemporary art (anything from 1947 to today). She aids in developing art collections that are meaningful to the individual and that will enhance the specific room or rooms. She likes to use color extensively since it can promote happiness, and she works with clients to find art they connect to, deeply, and want to live with. With a large enough budget to work with, Maria also will arrange for everything including the furniture, bedding, electronics, and whatever else is necessary to satisfactorily complete the transformation to make a person’s home a warm and outstanding anchor for life.
Maria will also take on the challenge of a “very tight” $20,000 project such as one for fitness personality Tracy Anderson when Maria worked for a feverish 48 hours on Tracy’s apartment in Los Angeles’ Brentwood section by using flea market finds and cheerful colors. This was after Maria became a charter member in Tracy’s workout studio in TriBeCa.
“Out There: Design, Art, Travel, Shopping” published by Pointed Leaf Press in 2013 is Maria’s way of sharing her talents. This book was awarded two 2013 USA Best Book Awards in the “Home Design” and “Art/How To” categories.
