Katy Perry Literally Got Down to Selena’s “Techno Cumbia” On ‘American Idol’

Katy Perry is one of the new judges on “American Idol” in case you didn’t know.  The show is on its Season 16 — now on ABC — and while the show is off to a rocky start as the new judges get used to their roles, this week’s episode really lightened things up.

Michelle Sussett, a contestant on the show this week, showed off her singing chops and dance moves as the Venezuelana performed to Selena‘s “Techno Cumbia.”

The singer really got into the song as she performed in short shorts and knee-high boots. At one point she tells the judges, which also includes Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan, to dance with her on stage.

Katy Perry looked pretty nervous and at first and was dancing around like a robot, but then she really got into. Katy started dropping it like it’s hot and sadly dropped it too much that she literally got down and couldn’t get back up. She flashed everyone and their mama her goods, but was a good sport about the whole thing.

Check out the performance below.

The judges all loved Sussett’s enthusiasm and talent and told her that she’s going to Hollywood!

Sussett — who fled Venezuela in 2014 and moved to the U.S. with her family due to the humanitarian crisis in Caracas — has a good chance of winning the competition. People Magazine reports that Sussett has won another singing competition in the past. According to the outlet, Sussett won $5,000 on the Ultimate Miami Voice contest in 2015.

She definitely brings the Latina vibe to the show that it desperately needs so we’re super excited for Sussett and hopefully she’ll sing more Selena.

As for Katy Perry, she definitely needs to practice her Spanish dance moves. But at least she’s practicing her Spanish language tweets.

See what can happen when you introduce Selena to people?! Magic!
