“La Hija de Nadie” by Yolanda del Rio
One summer during college I lived with my best friend on her aunt and uncle’s farm, in a loft above their garage. I worked at a Mexican restaurant where I was the only employee not from Mexico. Some of my best memories are of being alone in the mornings, mopping and taking chairs down from the tables while listening to the restaurant playlist. “La Hija de Nadie” was one of my favorite songs, though the other waitresses made fun of it. I thought it was passionate and beautiful and tragic.
