HipLatina: When staying home on NYE what is your favorite activity? Family? Self Pampering? Traditions?
Damaly Gonzalez: When staying home, my family and I will prepare 12 grapes to eat as soon as it hits 12am; making a wish for each one. We will watch either Telemundo or Univision or an English channel to see what’s going on in Times Square and for the countdown. We will also throw water out the window at 12am and wear red for love in the coming year.
HL: What if you go out? Where do you go and what do you do?
DG: When going out my friends and I would make reservations at a Latin or Ethnic restaurant somewhere in Williamsburg or Brooklyn area where there will be live Latin music playing. The past two years I did this with my close friend. In 2013 to 2014, we made reservations at Cubana Social (unfortunately it closed recently) had a three-course meal and ordered a bottle of champagne. At midnight, a Salsa band was playing and we hugged and danced into the new year. Last year, same friend and I went to another friend’s restaurant in Harlem, ate, drank and danced with the Afro-centric DJ into the new year.
HL: Favorite NYE drink of choice?
DG: Always bubbly or Rosé.
HL: Favorite hangover remedy?
DG: The Mexican soup from La Esquina diner in Williamsburg.
