Rita Moreno is set to receive yet another honor as being the FIRST Latino recipient of the Peabody Career Achievement Award. The 78th Annual Peabody Awards, presented by Mercedes-Benz, will take place on Saturday, May 18 at Cipriani Wall Street in New York. This prestigious honor will make the Latina Pioneer one of a handful of “PEGOT” winners. Moreno is already one of the few EGOT winners with an Oscar, a Tony, two Emmys, and a Grammy under her belt for her impressive line of work which spans over six decades. This amazing Latina started her entertainment journey at the tender age of 13 with her debut on Broadway, and most recently we adored her as the abuelita we couldn’t get enough of on the remake of the Netflix series, One Day at a Time, which unfortunately has been canceled after three seasons. Moreno is also the executive producer in Steven Spielberg’s upcoming remake of West Side Story. What better time to take a look back on the extraordinary journey of this “Latin Spitfire,” as she once referred to herself as.
