The most famous street many of us grew up on, turned 50 this year —Sesame Street. The iconic show made its debut on November 10, 1969, introducing us to many beloved characters we grew to love who interacted with Jim Henson’s adorable Muppets we couldn’t get enough of like Big Bird, Bert and Ernie, Elmo, The Count, Grover, Oscar the Grouch, Mr. Snuffleupagus, Rosita, and my favorite Cookie Monster, just to name a few. Their mission has always been “to help kids everywhere grow smarter, stronger, and kinder,” shares its website. “Sesame Street has brought the life-changing benefits of early learning to children across the globe for 50 years. Today, we reach kids in 150 countries and 70 languages — and we’re celebrating our landmark anniversary with fans and families all year long!” The year-long celebration continues with a PBS documentary SESAME STREET: 50 YEARS & STILL SUNNY! Premiering this December and hosted by seven-time Grammy Award-winner Gloria Estefan. As Sesame Street celebrates its Cinquentañera, what better way to highlight this impactful children’s series than to share a few life lessons it taught us over the years as it touched the lives of so many generations.
