The Men In Black: International trailer dropped on Thursday, staring the dynamic Thor: Ragnarok duo Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth. The comedy sci-fi, which is the highly-anticipated sequel to the 1997 film, starring Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, will hit theaters June 14, 2019. Although we’ll have to wait several months to see what the franchise has in store, the trailer gave fans a taste of what’s to come, even giving us two surprise appearances: Liam Neeson and Emma Thompson.
In the spinoff, Thompson, known as Agent M, teams up with Agent H, played by Hemsworth, to stop an unexplainable force threatening the organization. The first three movies take place in New York, where Agents J and K — Smith and Jones — are based, but the latest iteration of Men In Black filmed in London before taking off to Morocco. With the film being helmed by Fate of the Furious and Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray, we know MIB won’t disappoint. And we’re most excited about Thompson’s role in the Sony picture — here are 5 reasons we’re geeked about seeing the Afro-Panamanian and Mexican actress on the silver screen:

She Can Work a Suit

Smith and Jones made the black suits and sunglasses a signature style for the franchise. Well, Thompson is taking it a step further with how she slays the iconic black and white ensemble. She shared a photo of her and Hemsworth styling in the desert, writing “…it was casual Friday for the galaxy defenders.” We stan!

She’s Bringing the Action

“Hopefully we’re doing the franchise proud,” she told Entertainment.ie. “It’s a lot more action than I think you’ve seen in the other Men in Black films.” From the look of the trailer, we can tell she’s bringing it.

“It took me 20 years to find you. How many people can say that? You are the best-kept secret in the universe and I found you, which makes me perfect for this job,” Thompson says in the trailer to Agent O, played by Emma Thompson. When Agent O, asks, “You really think a black suit is going to solve all your problems?” Thompson calmly responds, “Um no, but it looks d— good on you.”
We’re sure there are more of those moments throughout the film. Thompson is matching — and arguably exceeding — her co-stars confidence levels.

Latina actresses are typically boxed in when it comes to TV and film roles. Add the racial component, as a queer Afro-Latina, the number of opportunities significantly decreases. However, we’ve seen several Black women of Latin American descent create their own lane — with or without Hollywood’s approval. Thompson has ascended in ranks within the industry, playing powerful roles in films like Dear White People, Selma, Sorry to Bother You and Creed II, among others.
