News surfaced in March that Jennifer Lopez would star alongside fellow Bronx-born Latina Cardi B in the upcoming film Hustlers. Well, the wait is finally over! Set to Cardi B’s “Money,” the full trailer for the stripper-centered film, starring J.Lo, Cardi B, and “Crazy Rich Asians” actress Constance Wu, released earlier today–and it did not disappoint.
The trailer begins with Lopez (who plays Ramona) teaching Wu (who plays Destiny) how to work the pole. Lopez’s character, who’s the head of a wildly successful strip club takes Wu under her wing. In the two-plus minute trailer for Hustlers, we learn that Destiny is simply trying to survive and make ends meet with what she makes at the strip club.
“I just want to take care of my grandma, maybe go shopping every once in a while,” Wu’s character says.
And Lopez is ready to help her get that and more by taking down Wall Street.
“These Wall Street guys, you see what they did to this country – they stole from everybody,” says Lopez in the Hustlers trailer. “Hard-working people lost everything, and not one of these douchebags went to jail. The game is rigged and it does not reward people who play by the rules.”
In the trailer, we also get a glimpse of the star-studded Cardi B, rapper-singer-flutist Lizzo, Riverdale‘s Lil Reinhart, and Keke Palmer. The rest of the Hustlers cast also includes Julia Stiles and Mercedes Ruehl.
“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to work with this dynamic group of women,” said Lorene Scafaria, Hustlers writer and director, in an interview. “We’re grateful to have assembled such a powerhouse cast.”
The film is also inspired by a true story and based on a 2016 New York Magazine article “The Hustlers at Scores” by Jessica Pressler. Now, the story is coming to life through the all-women cast and TV and film company Gloria Sanchez Productions. Lopez has producer credits in Hustlers alongside Elaine Goldsmith Thomas, Jessica Elbaum, Benny Medina, Will Ferrell, and Adam McKay. Hustlers is set to hit theaters on September 13.
