Bad Bunny is Spotify’s Most Streamed Artist of 2020

With one of the most successful albums of 2020 and the inescapable hit “Yo Perreo Sola” Bad Bunny is officially the most-streamed artist of 2020 on Spotify. The 26-year-old reggaetonero got more than 8.3 billion streams on the music streaming platform while his album, “YHLQMDLG“, is also the most-streamed album globally, totaling 3.3 billion streams to date. In response to the news, he thanked fans and reminded everyone to not get together during the holidays on the “Spotify: For the Record” podcast: “Don’t go have a lechón and rice at your family’s house and get Covid.” The trap star recently revealed he contracted Covid-19 after having to cancel his performance at the American Music Awards where he took home the awards for favorite male Latin artist and favorite Latin album for “YHLQMDLG“.

He also shared on the podcast his take on his third 2020 album release, “El Último Tour del Mundo”. The 16-track album includes the latest “Yo Visto Así” which he just released a video for, and features Rosalía, Jhay Cortez, and ABRA.

“Something I love from music is that you can do whatever you want. I hate doing the same [thing] for every album or every song, repeat the formula from a hit to make another hit and sound the same. I love to make something different and try new things so this album is something different than the other albums, it has a lot of feelings and so much from me. I  say it’s not a Bad Bunny album, it’s Benito’s album,” he said.

With the release of “YHLQMDLG” he used his platform to shine a light on violence toward women performing on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” wearing a shirt emblazoned with “Mataron a Alexa” and “No a un hombre con falda“. The message was in response to the murder of a Puerto Rican trans woman named Alexa who was reportedly killed for being trans. But his pro-women stance is also evident in his music, namely with “Yo Perreo Sola” an anthem about enjoying a night at the club solo to highlight the importance of consent. He performed a remix of the standout track with Puerto Rican queen of reggaetón Ivy Queen and Nesi, the original voice featured on the track, at the Billboard Awards.
