Best Dressed + Bold Statements
Every year, fashion enthusiasts from around the world have a sacred moment with their televisions (or technological devices) watching the prestigious red carpet of The Academy Awards. This year at the 89th annual Academy Awards Red Carpet, there was a certain notable accessory that shined among the vintage and classic looks featured among the best dressed, and it was not diamonds, nor Swarovski crystals, but rather ribbons and pins supporting important causes.
Let’s begin with Emma Stone, who is not only part of our HipLatina’s Oscar 2017 Best Dressed List (making an entrance in a stunning fringed gold gown by Givenchy Haute Couture) but she also wore a pin to showcase her support for Planned Parenthood, the women’s rights and healthcare organization.

Another actress who showed her support for the organization, by rocking a Planned Parenthood pin on her fabulous Gucci Clutch, was Dakota Johnson. She also wore gold — a silky Gucci gown. You can see close-ups of the pin on this organization’s twitter account by searching for the hashtag #IStandWithPP.

Other celebrities who made a strong statement include Ruth Negga, who not only looked fabulous in a gorgeous red Valentino gown, but also wore a ribbon in protest against President Trump’s travel ban and to support The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) Organization (ACLU’s mission, as stated on their website, has remained the same for over 100 years: “To defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person in this country.”).

Supporting the same organization was Hamilton’s creator and actor Lin-Manuel Miranda, who not only caused a sensation online by wearing a ribbon to support the ACLU, but also by bringing the cutest date ever to The Oscars—his mother! This was one of the most notable red carpet moments of the evening! His beautiful mom not only wore the classic blue ribbon, but she represented Latina moms proudly as one of the best dressed mothers we have ever seen on the Oscars red carpet (wearing a timeless black and white gown with long silky gloves and emerald green accessories). Well done Dr. Luz Towns-Miranda!!!

Speaking of best dressed, let’s continue on with more of our HipLatina’s Oscar 2017 Best Dressed List. Adding to the list of ladies and gentleman mentioned above is Taraji P. Henson, who transported us to the glamour of Old Hollywood by donning an elegant dark blue piece by Alberta Ferretti, along with a diamond necklace.

Among the classy beauties that looked super glam was Janelle Monae in Elie Saab. It really was a fairytale piece!

Salma Hayek showed some skin in a sexy black Alexander McQueen gown. Isn’t she fabulous at fifty? Goals, ladies!!! We must take notes.

As previously seen with Emma Stone and Ruth Negga, Olivia Culpo also showcased a vintage look with her outfit—a custom Marchesa dress for Stella Artois, inspired by their limited-edition chalices, which fund five years of water for women in the developing world. The partnership between Marchesa, the beer brand Stella Artois, and the nonprofit Water.org (which is co-founded by the famous actor and Oscar presenter, Matt Damon) is all in support of the clean drinking water campaign. We truly loved the vintage trend on the red carpet, and even more importantly, the festive ways celebrities were supporting important causes on this occasion.

Jessica Biel took chances and made a bold statement in a sequin dress and a fabulous chunky necklace. Walking the red carpet, she looked marvelous. Way to go Mrs. Timberlake!

Hailee Steinfeld wore a sheer floral romantic dress to The Oscars. The dress was so glamorous and featured an elaborate back flourish. A must see!

Karlie Kloss turned heads in a white, asymmetrical Stella McCartney gown. She looked super chic and dazzling. Our favorite part of her dress was the built-in cape and her striking diamond necklace.

Last but not least, our favorite eye candy of the night was Ryan Gosling. He looked incredibly dapper in a fitted, contemporary Gucci black tuxedo, bowtie and monochromatic ruffled shirt. Of course we know that behind any well-dressed man is an amazing woman. Eva we missed you last night!
Did we skip anyone? Who was your favorite this year?
Special note: While we are sooooo happy that Moonlight won the best picture award, we can’t help but feel sorry for La La Land. But kudos to them for handling this error with class and dignity!
