Do you love sweet treats and La Catrina? A Mexico City paletería has transformed the cultural icon into a colorful frozen dessert.
Ts’unu’um Paleterias, an artisanal paletería specializing in frozen treats and traditional paletas, is gaining online attention for its Catrina-shaped ice cream—a playful tribute to Mexican culture.
Customers can order the Catrina-shaped treat in a cone or bowl, with flavors including chocolate, taro, and beso de ángel. Ts’unu’um also offers duck-shaped ice cream and an extensive selection of paletas, from guava, horchata, and tres leches to arroz con leche, tamarindo, mango-chamoy, and more.
Prices range from 35 to 50 pesos, and the treats are made with fresh, natural ingredients. According to the owner, the shop’s name comes from a Mayan word for hummingbird—”tzuzun” or “ts’unu’um”—which also inspired its logo: a hummingbird carrying a paleta.
With its playful shapes and wide-ranging flavors, Ts’unu’um offers plenty to try—but its Catrina creation might be the sweetest tribute of all. Would you order one?
