Beyoncé’s Stylist Has a Brilliant Anti-Chafing Hack

My love for my thighs tends to fade around summertime when my choice to wear more skirts and shorts means I have to deal with the discomfort of my sweaty thighs rubbing together. Once the heat and humidity take over, my thighs are like teenage lovers: inseparable and awkward. Thigh chafing can become so uncomfortable that I’ve had to cut walks short or do the awkward, wide-legged, I’m a cowboy strut back to my apartment more than a few times.
I know I’m not alone in experiencing this unpleasantness so when I had the chance to sit down with celebrity stylist, Zerina Akers – yes, she’s Beyoncé’s stylist y’all – I had to know if she had any insider secrets.
Her suggestion: baby powder. “It helps keep [you] dry and helps with the friction.” To apply Akers recommends you put the powder on your hands first and then rub it on your thighs. She says we shouldn’t worry about any remaining residue because you’re only using “a little,” but you can always have a friend check you out just to be sure.
Mind. Blown. I was so happy to hear that something so affordable and accessible is the trick to keeping things pleasant down there.
Akers knows about keeping things dry and fresh under heated situations. In addition to Beyoncé she’s also styled Yara Shahidi, Ava DuVernay, and Chloe x Halle. Keeping her clients looking their best and feeling their freshest is part of her job. She’s currently a Dove partner who’s obsessed with the brands’ Invisible Dry Spray. “It’s one of my favorite items that I’ve added to my styling kit,” she reveals. Not only does the deodorant not leave white marks on clothing, Akers loves that her clients (and herself) can confidently walk the red carpet, without any funky mishaps.
