America Ferrera had her hands full on New Year’s Day
America Ferrera had her hands full on New Year’s Day. The actress and activist made two huge announcements back-to-back. One Instagram post went up on New Year’s Eve and as soon as the bell struck 2018 another incredible post went live.
America first announced that she had her husband Ryan Piers Williams, of six years, will be expecting their first child in the new year. She told the world of her baby news with the cutest picture of herself, her husband, and a onesie, with the caption: “We’re welcoming one more face to kiss in 2018! Wishing you #MásBesos in the New Year! #babybesos #HappyNewYear.” Ryan wrote: “Making room for new and beautiful things to come in 2018!”
On New Year’s Day, America also announced that she and a slew of Hollywood heavy-hitters (all women of course) had launched a defense fund to protect and represent women from sexual harassment.
The announcement was seen as a full page letter in The New York Times.
“Driven by outrage and a resolve to correct a power imbalance that seemed intractable just months ago, 300 prominent actresses and female agents, writers, directors, producers and entertainment executives have formed an ambitious, sprawling initiative to fight systemic sexual harassment in Hollywood and in blue-collar workplaces nationwide.”
To the amazing women who have come together to leverage your platforms and access to fight for survivors everywhere: thank you. Thank you for modeling true sisterhood. #TIMESUP pic.twitter.com/jnioipG7dX

America wrote on her Instagram: “We wrote and issued this letter of solidarity to stand with women across every industry in saying: #TIMESUP. Time’s up on silence. Time’s up on waiting. Time’s up on tolerating discrimination, harassment and abuse. The @TIMESUPNOW Legal Defense Fund provides subsidized legal support across industries to those who have experienced sexual harassment, assault, or abuse in the workplace.”
And the donations have been pouring in. They have a $15 million goal and so far have reached $13,721,175.
“Thank you!! ??What a way to start 2018 !!!!” America said on IG. “Standing together to say Time’s up on silence!?Time’s up on waiting! ?Time’s up on tolerating discrimination, harassment and abuse!? We’re coming for you 2018!!!”
