The Texas senate race between Democrat Beto O’Rourke and Republican Ted Cruz is a tight one. Currently, the polls show candidate in a virtual tie because Cruz has a three point lead, and the margin of error is three points so you go figure. Either way, the candidates are still out there encouraging people to vote.

O’Rourke spent the day touring South Texas yesterday and started his campaign day by paying respect to the queen of Corpus Christi, Selena Quintanilla.

The image speaks volumes, and while some people on social media accused the candidate of pandering to his base, we think it was much more than that.

O’Rourke at least can understand how much Selena means to the Latinx community, and how much she has impacted our culture. So if anything, O’Rourke gets us. Whether he knows anything about Selena or not, O’Rourke is speaking our language (literally) and that counts for a lot.

Here’s what others had to say about his visit to her statue.

@aeStruck: “Okay Texas, early voting begins today. Remember Selena was a Democrat, she would’ve voted for Beto. Beto O’Rourke loves Selena, Whataburger, Big Red, Texas and the United States. Ted Cruz is a Canadian that likes Mayonnaise Sandwiches and Yolanda Saldivar. I think you know what means.”

@angelahblah: “More BETO LOVES SELENA! HE HAS MY HEART.”
