Biden & Sanders Debate: Vice President Pick Could Be a Woman

Last night, two grumpy old men took the stage in a plea to be the next President of the United States of America. It’s true! People on social media couldn’t stop comparing former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders to the grumpy old men in the movie Grumpy Old Men. Yes, it was that bad. All they did was argue about old votes and policies and couldn’t stay on track when discussing crucial issues like coronavirus or immigration. There was one promise, however, that did get people’s attention.
Biden said that if he is chosen as the Democratic candidate, he will choose a woman as his vice-presidential candidate.
“If I’m elected president, my cabinet, my administration will look like the country, and I commit that I will, in fact, appoint a, pick a woman to be vice president,” Biden said last night on the CNN debate stage. “There are a number of women qualified to be president tomorrow. I would pick a woman to be my vice president.”
Sen. Sanders didn’t commit to the level that Biden did about choosing a female vice president but did say that “in all likelihood” he would be leaning toward selecting a woman as a running mate. People on social media were pleased to hear this firm commitment by Biden.
“My 7yr-old daughter just charged into the room: @JoeBiden just declared that his running mate will be a woman! Did you hear that?!” María Teresa Kumar, president of Voto Latino, tweeted last night.
Biden’s campaign senior adviser Symone Sanders said after the debate, according to BuzzFeed, that the former vice president had been thinking about making this strong declaration. “It’s something he thought about a lot recently and he decided he wanted to make a big commitment on a big stage,” Sanders said.
Now the main question is, who will he choose? A Democratic favorite has always been Stacey Abrams, the former candidate for Georgia governor. The problem is, she hasn’t endorsed Biden or Sanders. So Biden could also choose Sen. Kamala Harris, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, or Sen. Amy Klobuchar, or someone else entirely.
So, while the debate was a hot mess, Biden and Sanders need to get it together for the sake of the Democratic party. It would be wise of them to pick a female running mate soon. The faster they get wisdom from a woman, the better we will all be.
