For weeks — maybe more? — Kim Kardashian West has been trying to lose weight. She’s been tweeting about fasting, juicing, working out, but what’s the urgency? Kim already looks good, we didn’t see a need for her to lose more weight. Now we’re getting a possible reason why.
Artist Vanessa Beecroft made a mold out of Kim’s body. Now just think about what that actually means for a second. If your idea looks like a white cast on her actual skin, you are correct. Kim posted a picture of her nude body covered all in a white material, and said: “We took a mold of my body and made it a perfume bottle. @kkwfragrance.”

Okay, now we get why she was trying to get her body to perfection. But we’re still sort of in awe about this whole process.
The Hollywood Reporter provided some insight: “The process of getting a mold of your body, called lifecasting, often includes oiling the skin, posing the model and adding the mold material, whether it’s plaster bandages or silicone, for example. In this case, Kardashian West included her arms and legs in the mold, which, if they make it into the final design, will differ from traditional torso-shaped bottles.”
The artist who made the mold, as we said is Vanessa Beecroft, who is known to do sculptures and has been plagued with some controversy.

Beercraft — who is white — has said in the past that because of her collaborations with Kanye West, including working on his fashion shows, that she felt okay identifying herself as African-American.

“There is Vanessa Beecroft as a European white female, and then there is Vanessa Beecroft as Kanye, an African-American male,” she said in The Cut in 2016. But that is a whole other conversation. Back to Kim’s perfume. She has described what the scent will be, saying: “It smells to me like what I would think golden smells like, even though that’s a color and something that’s just luminous.”
