Oscars 2020 Was Still So White But the Fashion Was Not
The 92nd Academy Awards may have been so white, but the red carpet was definitely not
The 92nd Academy Awards may have been so white, but the red carpet was definitely not. In fact, this was probably one of the most stylish Oscars ever, and we have to thank the visionary creatives that made these looks happen. And, because last night was all about Parasite — YES — it made the ceremony a lot more interesting to watch.
The thriller from South Korea took an Oscar for best international feature, best original screenplay, best director, and best picture. It’s the first time an international film has won the best picture ever. Among the top highlights were Renée Zellweger’s win for best actress for Judy, Joaquin Phoenix scored best actor for Joker, Brad Pitt got his first acting Oscar for best supporting actor for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Laura Dern won best supporting actress for Marriage Story, and Taika Waititi won best-adapted screenplay for Jojo Rabbit.
But let’s get back to what we really care about — the looks! Everyone was fabulously unique. There wasn’t one color or style that dominated the Oscar red carpet. It was evident that every celeb wanted to push the envelope, whether it was with their gown, hair, or accessories. So, let’s take a look at the stars that made Oscars 2020 worth watching.

Tracee Ellis Ross
The queen Tracee Ellis Ross blew everyone out of the ballpark with this gold shimmery Zuhair Murad gown. While she didn’t attend the Oscars, she was at the glamorous Vanity Fair party and she looked like an Oscar statue herself. We can always count on Tracee to bring it on the red carpet, but this was on another level of fabulousness.

Oscar Isaac

Hands down, the best looking man of the night was Mr. Oscar Isaac. His main accessory that made the whole look work: the hair! From that luscious pompadour to that full beard. We could not take it! He is the only Oscar we wanted to take home.

Penélope Cruz
Penelope always classes up the joint. She’s usually wearing Chanel, and she did so again for this red carpet. But the beautiful thing about Penelope is that she always manages to make each look stand out from the rest. As similar as the styles may be, she always adds a different touch. It’s never a standard silhouette, but rather a sophisticated number that screams old school Hollywood. This black and white gown was just what we love to see from this Spanish queen.

Zazie Beetz

Zazie Beetz in the Joker was incredible! We loved seeing her at this year’s Oscars and serving as a presenter, as well. She wore a custom-made black Thom Brown gown that flattered her from every angle. But her stunning curly updo is what really caught our attention!

Regina King
Regina King was one of the first people to hit the red carpet and we’re so glad she did because she set the tone. Her pink champagne Versace gown was fit for a queen. We love the asymmetrical neckline, the silver glittery detail, and the A-line skirt. All of it looked amazing. Her hair and makeup were on point too!

Here’s another example of how to wear a basic black tux. Take a look at director and writer Taikia Waititi, who scored best-adapted screenplay for Jojo Rabbit. That salt-and-pepper top curl makes this entire look work. And you know what else? His praise and acknowledgment of the indigenous community at the Oscars. A man with good hair and a good heart is a fashion king.

Janelle Monáe
Janelle kicked off the Oscars the best way she knows how: with her voice! The singer and actress got everyone dancing to her opening number, but before that, she hit the red carpet in a silver Ralph Lauren gown that featured a hood. She looked like the Hollywood royalty that she is and her standing ovation after her performance, is proof of that.

America Ferrera
We cannot handle the goddess that is America Ferrera. She was glowing thanks to her baby bump and looked fierce in this warrior style look. She wrote on Instagram, “Oscars for the final farewell to 12 years of How to Train Your Dragon & my Berkian Warrior Queen Astrid. Tonight, I bring my own warrior ancestors with me, the indigenous Lenca tribe of Honduras.”This look left us speechless. We have no words!

Sandra Oh

Sandra Oh makes our heart swoon. We have never seen her look this beautiful before. Perhaps it was the puffy sleeves, the puffy bottom, the bow belt, the glittery detail, the updo, the shimmery ring, and earrings? Regardless of what it was exactly, all of it worked and worked SO well!

Billy Porter
No one can ever top the genius fashion of Billy Porter. He practically makes the red carpet. It’s never the same without him. What we love even more is how he thanked his entire team because you know it takes a village to put this amazingness together. The real question is, where can we get those gold feathers?

Salma Hayek
Leave it to Salma Hayek to bring the Greek goddess look back. This white gown made her look like a princess, and the crown didn’t hurt at all. Bella!

And to the main winners of the night, director Bong Joon-Ho and his incredible cast of Parasite looked amazing! Congrats to all the winners, and most importantly to everyone that rocked the red carpet.
