They say you can’t understand a person until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes. What if you could step inside the shoes of Selena Quintanilla? We’re not talking about her awesome stilettos, but something a little more inspiring. Luis Pizana, a 27-year-old footwear designer and product designer based in Santa Ana, CA, has entered the World Sneaker Championship with his new shoes all inspired by Selena.
“Footwear has always been a way for me to express myself,” Luis told CBS19 News. “I’ve been trying the past couple years and never really made the top 64, and this is the first time I’ve made the cut and been able to compete with people around the world,” Luis said.
Here’s Luis explaining his concept to Selena’s sneakers, which he is calling La Flor.
Here’s how the World Sneaker Championship, hosted by Foot Locker, works: “The global competition was created in 2014 as the first sneaker design tournament to discover and develop the next great sneaker designers. Their goal is to have a worldwide representation of aspiring sneaker designers to showcase their talent and represent their country. There is no cost to enter or vote. In partnership with Foot Locker, one of the largest footwear retailers, a limited quantity of the winning design will be produced and sold at select Foot Locker stores globally.”
Which means if Luis wins, we could end up sporting these awesome Selena stylish sneakers.
“It was a great way to pay respect to her and Corpus Christi in general because she has influenced so many people to really go out and achieve their goals in life in whatever they may be,” Luis said.
