Shakira and Maluma have delivered hit after hit, and now the Colombian superstars are reuniting for “AGUA,” out September 17. The merengue-inspired track marks their fourth official collaboration and their first together since 2018’s “Clandestino.” Maluma has been teasing the song on TikTok, offering fans an early taste of the pair’s latest musical turn.
The reunion arrives nearly a decade after they first joined forces on “Chantaje,” the chart-topping hit that established them as one of Latin pop’s most successful pairings. Since then, they’ve moved from seductive reggaeton to Latin trap—and “AGUA” appears poised to introduce another sound to their collaborative catalog.
Here’s a look back at their previous hits together:
In June 2018, the duo released their third collaboration, “Clandestino,” following “Trap,” which arrived in January 2018.
Shakira and Maluma first shook the internet in 2016 with “Chantaje,” the reggaeton lead single from Shakira’s eleventh studio album, El Dorado, released in 2017.
“Chantaje” became the second track to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Latin Songs chart and was Maluma’s first entry on the chart. According to Billboard, it became the decade’s most successful Latin single by a Latina, and its music video was the second most-viewed on Vevo in 2017.
Though not an official collaboration, Shakira first worked with Maluma when he joined the remix of her and Carlos Vives’ “La Bicicleta,” released in August 2016.
Now, we can’t wait to see what Shaki and Maluma have in store with “AGUA.” After turning reggaeton, Latin trap and pop into global hits, Shakira and Maluma are ready to test their chemistry in merengue territory.
