Colombian singer and trailblazer Shakira had quite the year in 2023. From start to finish, the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer made 2023 hers with major hits, collaborations, recognition and records despite not releasing an album. Her release of “BZRP Music Sessions Vol. 53” unleashed a tidal wave of successes from Latin Grammy wins to world records in addition to becoming an empowering track for women around the world. 2023 was also the year Shakira became the first South American MTV Video Vanguard winner and Billboard’s first ‘Latin Woman of the Year’ at the Latin Women in Music Gala. The singer was an unstoppable force who also reached a tremendous feat when she had the most No. 1s on Billboard’s Latin Airplay last year— “Monotonia,” with Ozuna, “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53,” with Bizarrap, “TQG,” with Karol G, “Copa Facia” with Manuel Turizo. The success of 2023 was the perfect segue for Shakira’s start to 2024 as she is now the Latina entertainer with the most Guinness World Records and third entertainer overall with the most.

All of these recent records she’s broken have amounted to her becoming the Latina with the most Guinness World Records with 21 records to her name in 2024. She ranks third overall following Adele with 44 records and Taylor Swift in first place with 118 records. Shakira’s impressive placement comes after earning 14 of those 21 Guinness World Records from the massive success of her single “BZRP Music Sessions Vol. 53 with Argentine DJ Bizarrap. This single became the most viewed Latin track on YouTube in 24 hours as well as the  fastest Latin track to reach 100 million views on YouTube. The diss-track was also the most streamed Latin track on Spotify in a single week.  These are just a few of the accolades this track alone has earned the Colombian singer.

Shakira’s accomplishments in a single year are indicative of her immense talent and long-standing career. The work she has put into her music and presence is evident and has not stopped since her first album release. More recently, Shakira was honored with a bronze statue of her liking in her hometown of Barranquilla, Colombia. She also announced in an interview with Billboard that this year she’s planning to go on tour to promote a new album, first since 2017’s El Dorado and its corresponding 2018 tour.

“Putting a tour together is fun, but it’s a great effort and you have to put everything on the balance and decide what the fans really want to hear, what songs you want to hear and how much production you want,” she previously told Billboard. In the end, the more production you have, the higher the ticket price. I want the tickets to be affordable. But to me, the most important thing is the repertoire. That’s why I think [my next tour] will be the tour of a lifetime, because I have so many songs.”
