In a meeting with lawmakers yesterday, President Donald Trump used incredibly foul language to describe countries with black and brown populations. The private bipartisan meeting was in regards to the figuring out a longterm solution for people that have Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status, in particular protections for people from Haiti, El Salvador and African.
According to The Washington Post, President Trump said: “Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?” Trump also said that the U.S. should “bring more people from countries such as Norway.” He also said: “Why do we need more Haitians?” Trump said, “Take them out,” the Post reports.
The backlash from these comments have been extraordinary, and the president denied saying those crass words this morning via Twitter.
People on social media also responded to the president’s words by showing him what their “shithole” country looks like.

I'm the proud daughter of immigrants from British Guyana and the Congo. My immigrant family – my cousins, aunts, uncles and my husband's Jamaican family – have contributed MIGHTILY to this country. Yet Trump, of all people, views us as useless products of "shithole countries." pic.twitter.com/kYzEvNEdnV

When my father’s relatives came here, many Americans considered Italy a “shithole” country. When my mother’s relatives immigrated, many felt the same about Ireland. Similar for my wife’s grandparents from Mexico & Russia. I’m as proud as ever tonight of our heritage.

.@realDonaldTrump called El Salvador a shithole country. My parents fled that country because of U.S.-intervention. If it's a shithole, it's Made in the USA™.

It’s terribly sad that it took this long for the majority of white Americans to finally say “yes, President Trump is racist,” while people of color having been saying this since 2016.
One of the interesting parts of Trump’s foul words is the part about Norway. He said he wanted more people from Norway, though as someone pointed out on Twitter, why would they want to come here? People in Norway have free healthcare. Also, Norway is uber liberal. Is Trump secretly a liberal and not a Republican as he claims to be?
But in all honesty, his words won’t stop him, and his latest comments will just be another footnote in the page of his presidency. He knows he can say anything and get away with pretty much get away with it so in that respect, it doesn’t matter. His words are just that: ignorant words. We know the beauty that these countries behold and we know that he doesn’t represent us.
The only way to stop him is through our own resistance.
