YouTube Star Says Extensions Damaged Her Hair, So She Shaved It Off

Vanessa Martinez is known as an internet darling for many reasons, one of them being she’s a gorgeous YouTube star. The 21-year-old is a notable vlogger with millions of viewers. Her video topics range from beauty products reviews to very personal. Recently she shared the damage that hair extensions had caused her natural locks.

Like others on the Internet who use their platform for awareness, this video is revealing in so many ways. It’s particularly fascinating for those who have no idea what it’s like to have hair extensions and also the damage they cause. Vanessa disclosed that she always had thin hair, but that adding extension only made it worse and she slowly started going bald.

“As you guys can see, I have extensions in. This is not my own hair,”Vanessa said in a video that has been viewed almost a million times, and it’s only been online for less than a week. “No matter what extensions you put in your hair, you’re going to go slightly bald from it, just from the weight.” Vanessa added, “I’m just making myself balder and balder, so why don’t I just cut all my hair off and start over.”

The video, while refreshing to witness, is so telling of the constant BS women deal with all in the name of beauty. It’s so sad that we have to damage ourselves just to look pretty, when our true beauty lies within.
