If you’re in desperate need of a beach vacation—Puerto Vallarta, Mexico might be the spot for you. What really left me in awe of this paradise-like location is how it’s surrounded by mountains. It’s honestly the perfect combination of everything: nature, beach and culture. You’re bound to find an excursion that fits your preferences. Here are a few spots in Puerto Vallarta worth checking out!

Las Caletas

This is an island filled with adventure for everyone in the family. You can book this excursion through Vallarta Adventures. Be sure to book as soon as you can, as the island has a capacity for visitors each day. You’ll travel by boat to Las Caletas for about 30 minutes. When you arrive, you’ll be taken aback by all the greenery and clear blue waters, which are not common on the beaches of Nuevo Vallarta. At Las Caletas, you can kayak, stand-up paddle board, snorkel or lay in a hammock to achieve that perfect sun-kissed tan. Teens can also enjoy the blob, zip lining and slide n’ fly which hurts like no other. There’s also ziplining and horse-back riding for kids ages 4-11.

Also located on the island, Las Caletas, you’ll take an evening boat ride to enjoy dinner and a show. The fire tricks and amount of flexibility the artists have will leave you in awe. By far one of the best shows you could ever experience.

Looking to do some shopping on your trip? Sayulita is filled with lots of cute little shops. I will admit they’re pricey but it doesn’t hurt to window shop. If you need a sweet treat in between the shopping stop by Wa Kika for a paleta.

Sometimes you need a day away from the pool and beach. If that’s the case, visit San Sebastian del Oeste which is about an hour and a half away from Nuevo Vallarta. You can book this excursion through Vallarta Adventures as well and it includes a delicious lunch and tour of the town. Oh, and don’t forget to treat yourself to a michelada right off the town square.
