Kacey Musgraves Asks Fans to Help Children Whose Parents Were ‘Deported Unfairly’
The country singer asked fans to support immigrant children during her birthday concert, drawing backlash from conservative critics

Kacey Musgraves is once again speaking up for immigrant children—and this time, her support is drawing conservative backlash.
The Texan singer kicked off her Middle of Nowhere Tour on Friday, August 21—the same day as her birthday. To celebrate turning 38, she asked fans to donate to the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights in Chicago.
Afterward, she faced backlash from conservatives online, with some complaining about the state of country music and others calling her “traitorous.” Musgraves hasn’t publicly responded to the criticism, but this isn’t the first time she’s supported immigrant communities.
She backed the Young Center back in April, when she partnered with Depop to auction off pieces from her own closet, with proceeds going to the immigrant advocacy group.
And, we can’t forget when Musgraves invited brothers Antonio, Caleb and Joshua Gámez-Cuéllar—young mariachi musicians from Texas—to open for her during three May shows at Gruene Hall after they and their parents were released from ICE detention. Their father said the family came to the United States seeking asylum after fleeing cartel threats in Mexico, while the Department of Homeland Security said they were living in the country without legal permission.
Kacey Musgraves has continued to use her platform to spotlight immigrant communities. We love to see her use her voice for good.
