There’s a lot of pressure that goes into picking the right prom dress and for a senior in high school, shedding hundreds of dollars for a gown you’re only going to wear once can be tough. That’s why Alabama teen Nazmayde Castillo (aka @Nazmayde) decided to do things her way by taking the DIY route. She bought herself a $50 cocktail dress from Fashion Nova and transformed it into a number that really made a statement.
In fact, her genius tweaks were so creative, even Fashion Nova gave her props on Twitter for it. How cool is that?
The dress on the left is the Fashion Nova dress in it’s original form and the photo on the right is obviously Castillo looking fab with her transformed dress and her boyfriend/prom date. Those blue flowers added at the hem definitely took the dress to a whole new level but there’s a really cute story behind the whole thing.
LOVE how creative this couple was for prom 💙💙 pic.twitter.com/JRUKgZIVqA

Apparently Castillo’s boyfriend MJ Johnson (aka @the.officialmj) is the one who found the dress and her aunt is the one who added the blue flowers at the hem for her. In other words, it took a team to get this prom dress right.

“She turned my idea into my dream dress for prom… I fell in love with it even more the second I tried it on!” Castillo told Revelist. This is proof that fast fashion can literally take you anywhere from a casual Saturday out with friends to a cocktail hour—even prom. It’s also proof you don’t have to spend the big bucks to look stylish. All it takes is a little creativity and a little styling to get you slaying—just like Castillo did in this impressive number.

Lastly, if we learned one thing here, it’s not to sleep on Fashion Nova. The fast fashion brand is popular with celebs like Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Cardi B, Jordyn Woods, Khloe Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian, Adrienne Bailon, Amber Rose, Cassie and so many more for a reason. These fast fashion buys stay surprising us sometimes.
