Imagine ‘A Star Is Born’ With Jennifer Lopez and Will Smith. It Almost Happened.

A Star Is Born is in the middle of award season. The Bradley Cooper-directed film, which stars himself and Lady Gaga, is racking up the award nominations and for good reason. Have you seen the movie? It’s beautiful and powerful, and we can’t imagine anyone else in those roles. As you may know, however, this is the fourth installment of this particular storyline — with the same title — but our generation was in need of a remake, and so we have this stellar version. However, the movie we love so much could have starred another singer.

Jennifer Lopez was in talks to be in A Star Is Born alongside Will Smith! Kind of bizarre and yet we’re so intrigued. Lopez, who is currently doing press for her new film Second Act, was asked about the film that almost could have been.

“Oh yeah,” Lopez said. “Will and I talked about it, and talked about developing the script. It just never took off. You know, projects are like that.”

She went on to say how proud she was of her good friend Cooper for directing his first film and for the performance by Gaga.

“We’re friends, and watching Lady Gaga do her thing in the movie, it’s just great,” she said. “Everything happens in its own divine timing.”

Just imagine what this version would have been like. Will Smith, a respected and famous rapper, takes an unknown singer and dancer under his wing, and blows her up into a huge pop star. What would be Lopez’s insecurity in the film? Not her nose, but rather her butt. She famous for it!

According to People magazine, Lopez said people were very critical of her back when she was starting out in her career.

“I’m killing it, and then everybody’s like, ‘She can’t sing, she can’t dance, she can’t act, she’s just some pretty face or her butt is big’ or whatever they were saying about me and I started thinking, ‘Yeah, that’s true,'” she recalled. “And it really hurt me for a long time.”

She would definitely have been able to bring that fire to A Star Is Born. Why not make another version with Lopez and Smith? Would you watch? Well, we will see her in a new upcoming film in which she plays a stripper.
