“I present this album as an homage and in gratitude to Selena. With admiration for a Mexican-American who expressed her love for music and the stage through her music and dancing alongside her family,” Aguilar wrote in an Instagram post.
This is her followup to her debut solo album Primero Soy Mexicana which she worked on with her father and received a Best Ranchero/Mariachi Album Latin Grammy nomination and a Grammy nom for Best Regional Mexican Music Album. She’s gained acclaim for her covers of two well-known songs: “La Llorona,” which she performed at the 19th Annual Latin Grammys, and Lady Gaga’s “Shallow” from A Star is Born. The video has nearly 3 million views and marks her first time recording in English. In Baila Esta Cumbia she also sings in English on “Dreaming of You/I Could Fall in Love.”

She’d been teasing her tribute album with Instagram posts in November 2019 dressed as Selena and promoting her cover of “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom.” “I would like to be able to take her music to more young girls who never got the opportunity to listen to it,” she wrote on Instagram. The album was released on Jan. 31 and features seven songs. It is available on all music platforms. While no one can come close to Selena, this is just another indication of her legacy and influence in the music industry.
