Celebrated every August 17, National Thrifting Day or Thrift Shop Day is a chance to leave our fast fashion retailers behind and support thrift shops both online and in your local area
Celebrated every August 17, National Thrifting Day or Thrift Shop Day is a chance to leave our fast fashion retailers behind and support thrift shops both online and in your local area. The fashion industry is one of the most wasteful industries on the planet and it’s more important than ever to reuse, donate, and thrift our clothes to avoid having them up in a landfill. Unsurprisingly, the thrifting industry both from chain and individual retailers is a white-saturated market despite it being an important cultural touchstone and economic necessity for many BIPOC communities, including Latinxs. Today, continue the tradition and try making double the difference by purchasing reused clothing from a Latinx-owned vintage or thrift shop! This is not an exhaustive list but a starting place whether you’re an experienced thrifter or are just embarking on your thrifting journey. Read on to learn more about 11 Latinx-owned vintage and thrift shops that you should support for National Thrifting Day.
