Shakira’s ‘Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran’ is Certified 7x Platinum
Shakira's latest album is a testament to her resilience and it's now officially platinum
The iconic Shakira has had unparalleled success throughout her decades-long career since making her debut in in 1990 when she was only 13 years old. Just last year, she found herself with back-to-back successes despite not releasing an album. From her hit single “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53” breaking multiple Guinness World Records to having the most No. 1s on Billboard’s Latin Airplay and even becoming the first South American MTV Video Vanguard winner, the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer has been unstoppable. It’s looking like she will continue to dominate music once again after her recently released 12th studio album and her first LP in seven years, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran (Women No Longer Cry)—a nod to her empowering “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53” lyrics. The 16-track album is a testament to resilience following her public break up from Spanish soccer player Gerard Pique after a decade together and two kids. The 47-year-old has now officially turned heartbreak into a platinum-selling album. Since its drop on March 22, it became the most-streamed album of 2024 in the first 24 hours and has been streamed 10 billion times globally. It was also certified 7x platinum on the album’s release day. Shakira commemorated the moment with an Instagram post:
“What better release day gift?? 7x platinum! thanks and more thanks to everyone who comes to listen and who continues to support, it gives me so much satisfaction to share this album with you!”
Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran embodies Shakira’s experiences following her public separation from Pique with an empowering message and the album title itself reminds us of that. This record’s tracks include features with some of Latin music’s biggest names including Karol G, Manuel Turizo, Grupo Frontera, Fuerza Regida and even her own sons, Sasha and Milan. Shakira’s collaboration with rapper Cardi B on “Punteria” has seen success from its release, jumping to No. 9 on the iTunes U.S. chart, as well as making waves with their music video, which has garnered nearly nine million views on Youtube.
While promoting the album she spoke with Jimmy Fallon on the Tonight Show about turning her pain into art and why she chose diamond tears for the album art.
She shared that she was worked on “transforming pain and anger and frustration” into “creativity, productivity, strength and resilience.” She added that she chose diamonds for their resilience saying that’s “why I picked the metaphor of the precious stones, because of the resilience that us women have today when we have to face adversity.”
