Los Bukis To Receive a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
Los Bukis join the likes of Shakira and Jenni Rivera as recipients of a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
Los Bukis formed in Michoacán in 1973 and through the decades have established themselves as one of the most iconic and one of the longest-running Mexican music groups. After 16 studio albums, a reunion tour and historic Las Vegas residency, they’re officially getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Over the years, the Walk of Fame has inducted over 2,700 stars including a number of Latinx entertainers including Jennifer Lopez, Mexican rock band Maná, and Shakira. More recently, Mexican-American regional Mexican music singer Jenni Rivera was honored with the 2,783rd star, in front of Capitol Records. Latinxs have had a strong influence in the entertainment industry and have been rightfully recognized with stars, and now The Bukis join the ranks among the three dozens honorees for Hollywood Walk of Fame class of 2025.
Los Bukis’ frontman, Marco Antonio Solis, shared the group’s excitement for the upcoming honor in an Instagram post:
“Five decades ago this was born with so much essence, an essence of love and truth that managed to touch millions of hearts that today celebrate with us this recognition that will shine brightly in our firmament. Thank you Bukimania for taking us to this transcendent place. And forever The Bukis.”
Some of their biggest hits like “Chiquilla Bonita”, “Tu Cárcel”, and “Como Fui a Enamorarme de Ti” have been the soundtrack for many families and communities, making them a staple within Mexican music. The band was formed by cousins Marco Antonio Solis and Joel Solis as children who later joined forces drummer Jorge Dávila and bassist Carlos Enrique “Kike” González and released their debut studio album, Falso Amor in 1975. They would go on to have some new members and the current lineup includes the Solis cousins along with José Javier Solís, Pedro Sánchez, Roberto Guadarrama, José “Pepe” Guadarrama, and Eusebio “El Chivo” Cortéz. They’ve earned three Grammy nominations and their single “Tu Carcel” became a Diamond Record—a first in Mexican music history.
The group is also currently making history as headliners in their own Las Vegas residency—the first Spanish-language residency on the strip. The residency is being held at the Dolby Live theater in the Park MGM resort and hotel during July and September with 15 shows total. This historic run follows the group’s successful “Una Historia Cantada” reunion tour across the United States following their 25-year hiatus.
The band has two years to schedule star ceremonies from the date of selection, according to the Hollywood Walk of Fame website. The ceremony is usually announced ten days prior to the dedication.
