Iconic Mexican Singer Ana Gabriel Opens Up About Her Marriage & Global Tour
Singer Ana Gabriel revealed through Instagram live that she's married to a woman she reportedly connected with while ill amid her global tour
Love is in the air. Legendary Mexican singer-songwriter Ana Gabriel revealed in an Instagram Live that she’s recently married and will soon be on her honeymoon in 2025 following the conclusion of her Un Deseo Más tour—a celebration of her 50-year career. The singer, known for her signature raspy voice and romantic hits, affirmed to a fan asking a question: “Ya estoy casada”. During the Live, she showed off her wedding ring and confirmed that she will be with her “marida” in the Dominican Republic prior to leaving for their honeymoon. She’s still in recovery from pneumonia which led to having to postpone the tour in Latin America and was also the impetus for her connection with her now-wife. In response to a fan stating they wanted to care for her, she said “Ya tengo quien me cuide” (I already have someone to care for me).
Journalist Jorge Carbajal confirmed news of the nuptials and revealed the identity of Gabriel’s wife, a Peruvian psychologist named Silvana Rojas who, according to Carbajal, stood by the singer while she recovered from pneumonia mid-tour. The relationship allegedly began through social media, specifically through direct messages which soon turned romantic, he reported.
Gabriel has been a long time LGBTQIA+ icon for the Latinx community. One of her most well-known hits “Simplemente Amigos” speaks to the experience of not having the freedom to love your partner publicly. A sentiment that resonates deeply with the LGBTQIA+ community. Throughout her career, Gabriel has also been subject to speculation surrounding her sexuality and personal life though she’s famously private. She addressed the speculation during a 2015 performance at Auditorio Banamex:
“Why do I always get the same question? They [reporters] haven’t seen me with a man; but they haven’t seen me with a woman. At this age, I’d have to get someone bigger and with no protection, so, I’d have to make a 180. Maybe I’m asexual, like the angels.”
Born María Guadalupe Araujo Yong in Sinaloa, Mexico to a Mexican father and Chinese mother, Gabriel picked up an interest in music as a young child. With around 20 albums and hit including “Sin Tu Amor”, “Ay Amor”, and “Es Demasiado Tarde”, the 68-year-old has cemented a place for herself in the Latin music industry. Now the celebrating 50 years in music with her global tour Un Deseo Más which began in January throughout Latin America. It is set to arrive in the U.S. in the fall starting on Sept. 13 for 24 dates concluding on Nov. 30 in Miami. On May 21 she announced that she needed to postpone her tour after her flu advanced to pneumonia and announced that her May 25 show in Sao Paulo, Brazil, will be instead on July 26. It was during this time that her romance flourished and now she’s planning a honeymoon to be enjoyed in private next year.
“I’m telling you that in the year 2025, I’m going to go on my honeymoon,” the icon said during the Live. “I already have someone to accompany me on my honeymoon,” she said – laughing. “Only two people are going to my honeymoon.”
