Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez Had a Public Reunion and Fans Are Freaking Out

Do you remember the good old days when Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato were BFFs, appearing side-by-side almost everywhere? Although I do, according to Refinery 29, that was a good six years ago — until last night. The longtime but former BFFs posed together on the red carpet at last night’s InStyle Awards.

The last time that the two were seen together, at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2011, they were just 19 years old. Gomez had just released her final album with her band The Scene, When The Sun Goes Down, and Lovato transitioned from her Disney Channel show, Sonny With a Chance, to focus on her music career and release her third studio album, Unbroken.

But life got complicated and the two friends eventually drifted apart. As Demi Lovato explained to Complex magazine in 2015, the falling out wasn’t over her not liking Justin Bieber (Gomez’s boyfriend at the time) but rather just something that happens. “You know, when you’re young and you get older, you change and people change. You have things in common, and then all of a sudden, you don’t. It’s just a part of life,” she said.

Recently, though, the tide has begun to turn. It began to seem as if the estranged friends had finally reconnected after Gomez commented on one of Lovato’s recent Instagram photos, according to Us Weekly. On a teaser video clip that Lovato posted of her new documentary, Simply Complicated, Gomez wrote that “this was beautiful. I’m so happy for you” and “you always continue to [be] bold and real. I wish more people were like you. Love you.” Lovato replied by saying “thank you so much, this means the world to me and more” and “love you too.”

The lovely message alerted fans to the fact that the two are following each other on Instagram again and had even supported each other’s music over the summer via social media. While the two had remained friends, with some ups and downs, throughout the years, we haven’t seen them out publicly together in a long time. In fact, fans are overjoyed at the display of friendship after so many years of turmoil. The reactions have been beautiful. Hooray to the reunited BFFs!
