28 Things that Prove Jennifer Lopez Had the Best 2019

It’s almost 2020, but during these final moments of the year, we normally look back at the previous 365 days and reflect on winning moments. We quickly realized that Jennifer Lopez had what seemed like more winning moments than anyone else this year. She received Oscar buzz for the film Hustlers (which she also co-produced), got engaged to Alex Rodriguez and is probably in the best shape of her life. Did we mention that she turned 50 and still looks like she’s in her 30s? There’s no doubt about it, 2019 was definitely the year of J.Lo, and we wanted to congratulate her by sharing 28 instances where the Nuyorican shined like the superstar that she is.

She turned 50 fabulously

On July 24th of this year, Jennifer Lopez turned 50 years old, and she celebrated in the most over-the-top, J.Lo fashion. She got a key to the city of Miami, had her birthday dubbed “Jennifer Lopez Day,” got a Porsche from Alex Rodriguez, and wore custom Versace to her gold-themed, celeb-studded b-day party at Gloria Estefan’s house. She clearly lives by the “Go big or go home” motto.

Graced the Cover of Harper’s Bazaar

Having an epic year as a Hollywood star means that you’ll land on the cover of a magazine (or several). J.Lo was the cover girl for Harper Bazaar‘s February 2019 issue. Her cover story, so fitting for the month of Valentine’s Day, focused on her 30-year-career, as well as, being “wildly in love.”

She hosted SNL

On December 7, 2019, Jennifer Lopez hosted Saturday Night Live for the third time (you have to check out her hoops skit). Her monologue, of course, was entitled “Jennifer Lopez’s Unbelievable Year Monologue.” It was a moment for J-Lo to be in her hometown, just in time for the holidays, being front and center on one of the most iconic shows of all time.

She announced she’s performing at the Super Bowl

This year, Jennifer Lopez announced that she will be co-headlining the 54th Super Bowl on Sunday, February 2020, alongside fellow Latina superstar Shakira. She started her “It’s My Party” concert tour

On March 22, 2019, J-Lo announced her “It’s My Party” tour. 38 shows, including those in Miami, Montreal, and El Alamein, invited the world to party with the Nuyorican, dancing along to jams including “If You Had My Love,” “Love Don’t Cost a Thing,” and “Medicine.”

For this year’s Grammys, J.Lo was part of a pop culture moment in history. She opened up the show in a monologue about the personal meaning of music, alongside former First Lady Michelle Obama, Lady Gaga, Alicia Keys, and Jada Pinkett Smith. Added bonus? Lopez shouted out fellow strong Latina Maria Felix, in a Ralph & Russo outfit from the brand’s Felix-inspired collection.

She relived that Versace moment during Fashion Week

It’s a feat to wear a risque look and then wear it even better two decades later. That’s exactly what J.Lo did when she wore a 2020 version of her 2000 Versace jungle dress to completely shut down the Versace Milan Fashion Week show. The moment, of course, instantly blew up the internet (again), and generated a mind-boggling “$9.4million worth of media publicity.”

She’s one of People‘s People of the Year

Of course, when you achieve and accomplish so much in the course of a year, people are going to notice. People Magazine, in fact, did and named Jennifer Lopez as one of their People of the Year for 2019. She graced one of the covers, surrounded in soft pink tulle and gazing up happily. The words next to her face and name? “The Year My Dreams Came True; ‘The key is not giving up.'”

She received the CFDA Fashion Icon Award

Aside from that very iconic Versace gown, Jennifer Lopez has had more memorable red carpet and other fashion moments than we can even count. So it made sense when she was honored this year with the CFDA Fashion Icon Award. She accepted her award, which she dedicated to the late Oribe and Keyvn Aucoin, in an orange crop top (with 43,200 crystals) and a ball skirt by Ralph Lauren Collection.

In her busy 2019, Jennifer Lopez had time to sparkle on the Met Gala carpet. Publications pointed out that getting an invite to the hugest fashion event of the year is difficult, but getting a plus one is an even bigger honor. But J.Lo made it look like no big thing as she walked alongside fiancé Alex Rodriguez in campy Versace.

She was named GQ‘s Icon of the Year

Leave it to Jennifer Lopez to grace a magazine cover for “Men of the Year.” Her being named GQ‘s Icon of the Year demanded that she play with the big boys and thus got her own cover in December 2019. It was yet another time that made it clear that 2019 was J.Lo’s year.

She is receiving Oscar buzz for Hustlers

In addition to several award nominations and wins, Jennifer Lopez is getting the biggest buzz of all for her supporting role of Ramona in the film Hustlers — Oscar buzz. This may be the part that gets Jennifer that coveted golden statue that every actor wishes and hopes for.

She had her biggest live-action film opening weekend ever

When Hustlers opened in September of 2019, it made a whopping $33.2million, making it the actress’ biggest live-action opening weekend ever (she had a voice role in Home, which netted $52.1 million its opening weekend). It is also the biggest opening weekend for STXfilms, and surpassed projections for the film ($20-$25 million).
