Jennifer Lopez Shares Her Thoughts About the New Selena Netflix Show

All Selena fans should know by now that Netflix will be releasing a new series based on the life of Selena Quintanilla. If you hadn’t heard yet, where have you been these past two days? While we’re still in the middle of celebrating this incredible news, we couldn’t help but wonder, what must Jennifer Lopez think about the new Selena project? The woman who famously portrayed her — which in turn catapulted her own career through that film — must have something to say about it. So, for a day and a half, we stalked J.Lo’s social media desperately waiting for her to comment about the Netflix/Selena project and we heard nothing.

The thing is, J.Lo is busy being J.Lo. She’s also in the middle of promoting her new film Second Act, which had its premiere last night. But, at last, during an appearance on The View yesterday, Jen did comment on the new show. During one segment, co-host Sunny Hostin brought up the project, and Jen said “Nice!” and “I love that!” almost as if it was news to her. Jennifer went on to say that filming the movie had such great memories for her.

“I was so lucky to play her so early in my career,” Jennifer said on The View. “I was just starting out as an actress, and I was super serious like ‘I had to play this role’ and I had to do a good job. She meant so much to so many people. I had a huge responsibility. I was only 25, or 26 years old at the time. I just learned so much from her. I didn’t realize we were going to have so many similar trajectories and path. And I was just about to release my first album. Just watching how she handled fame, and family, the whole thing and being in the public eye. It was an honor and a privilege, and a blessing to play her at that time in my career. It was just one of the most beautiful experiences of my life that I have ever had in a film.”

It’s beautiful to hear J.Lo speak so fondly about Selena, but also to see that Selena means as much to her, as she does to the world. Who knows, the new show may have a J.Lo cameo. It’s possible!
