Jessica Alba Set to Star in Hulu Series Helmed by Charise Castro Smith and Eva Longoria
Jessica Alba stars in a Hulu thriller with Eva Longoria directing and "Encanto" writer Charise Castro Smith as writer and producer
Latinas on television remain few and far with the cancellations of Latina-led shows like One Day at a Time and Not Dead Yet but there is some progress being made. Lopez vs. Lopez starring Mayan Lopez and Selenis Leyva and Gina Rodriguez on the upcoming season of Will Trent are the only Latinas on major TV shows right now and we can add Jessica Alba to the list. Cuban-American playwright Charise Castro Smith, co-writer and co-director of Encanto, is set to develop, write and executive produce the original series and joins Eva Longoria and Alba, both of Mexican descent, on the series adaptation of the bestselling book, Confessions On The 7:45., Deadline exclusively reported. Alba will star while Longoria, who made her film directorial debut with Flamin’ Hot, is set to direct the pilot. The novel is a psychological thriller in which a working mom (Alba) meets a stranger on a train as she is commuting home who upends her life. As her life unravels and betrayals are revealed, she questions whether we can ever truly know the people closest to us.
“Beyond excited for this one 🎥🎬🎞️ A series adaptation of @lisaunger’s international bestseller, written by @charisecastro, directed by @evalongoria and for @hulu – it’s going to be a good one! Let’s goooooo ❤️ #ConfessionsOnThe745 #LatinasUnite #SheSePuede,” Alba posted on Instagram sharing the news.
Alba most recently starred in and executive produced the Netflix action thriller Trigger Warning and she’s known for her roles in Fantastic Four, Honey, and Sin City. Earlier this year, she launched her production company Lady Spitfire which centers on female-driven projects and Latinx stories. Castro Smith previously worked on the drama series The Exorcist for Fox and her ABC Studios drama script The Death Of Eva Sofia Valdez got to pilot with Cuban American actress Gina Torres in the starring role. She made her TV debut in 2015 writing for the Lifetime series Devious Maids which Longoria also worked on as a director. Longoria is currently a guest star on Season 4 of the hit Hulu series Only Murders in the Building and the Apple+ series, Land of Women set in Spain. Her TV directing credits include Gordita Chronicles, Devious Maids, Telenovela, Grand Hotel, and Jane the Virgin.
“I could not put this book down. The moment I read the line, ‘If you want to keep a secret you must first hide it from yourself,’ I was hooked,” Alba previously stated. “This book is about trying to bury secrets and the shame we carry until the truth exposes us. I can’t think of a more exciting person to partner with on this project. Charise is so ridiculously talented and truly gets every nuance under the skin of these characters and their web of lies.”
