Instilling strong values in our children is one of the biggest responsibilities a parent has, and honestly, we’ll take all the help we can get. We love that lots of today’s children’s programming focuses on kindness, acceptance, courage and community. The new Nickelodeon series Baby Shark’s Big Show! for example, really drives home the community message. In the series, Baby Shark and his best friend William go on adventures around their community, meeting new friends, spending time with family and getting to know the world around them. Be sure to tune in to Baby Shark’s Big Show! on Fridays at 12:30/11:30c on Nickelodeon!

Community is such a major aspect of Latino culture and it’s so encouraging that our kids can watch the show and start to internalize some of those positive values that we’re already teaching them from a character they know and love, without even realizing it! That’s definitely the kind of screen time we should all get behind.

It’s so important to prioritize teaching our kids to be active, contributing members of their communities and Baby Shark’s Big Show! models just that. It’s a super-fun and exciting series that really can help your kids learn a lot about friendship and community in a fun and engaging way.

Baby Shark Respects His Elders

In the series, Baby Shark has a very close bond with Grandma Shark and Grandpa Shark. He spends a lot of time with them and they definitely spoil him just as much as any loving abuelitos, but he appreciates and respects them. In Latino families, los abuelos are usually the people who keep the culture alive and take an active role in helping our kids learn to love and appreciate where they’re from, but that can often only happen when children actually want to spend time with their grandparents, like Baby Shark does with Grandma Shark and Grandpa Shark.

Baby Shark is a Good Friend

If Baby Shark’s actions alone don’t show it, his performance of “Fish Friends Forever” should prove what a loyal and beloved friend he is. Baby Shark is a popular dude and that’s undoubtedly because he is engaged and active in his community and cares about those around him. In Latino communities, we have each other’s backs and Baby Shark is a good way to demonstrate exactly what that should look like. His loyalty and love make him an even more valuable member of his community, and we’d hope the same for our kids as they grow up and become more socially engaged.

Baby Shark Cares for His Environment

We want our kids to be environmentally aware and appreciate the Earth we live on, and Baby Shark is good at showing how we should care for the world around us. On each adventure, he meets new sea creatures and is always sure to treat them with care and kindness just as we all hope our children will treat the living things in their worlds, whether that is through their relationships or their actions.

Baby Shark’s Adventures Help Him Care More

In the series, Baby Shark goes on tons of adventures with his besties which allows him to encounter new places and animals. Because these experiences give him opportunities to see what it’s like outside of his family unit, he can have more empathy towards others and the world around him, which of course makes him a much more caring creature.

Baby Shark’s Family Is All About Self-Care

You know the idea that you have to fill your own cup before you’re capable of filling anyone else’s? Baby Shark kind of gets it even though he’s a kid. Grandma Shark in particular has taken the time to teach him the importance of self-care, which he practices through meditation, which we believe will certainly inspire other children to try the same. Meditation has tons of emotional and physical benefits that can help kids be better equipped to engage in their communities and it’s a great tool to help children learn to regulate their feelings.

Because of these reasons and many more, Baby Shark’s Big Show! will be a favorite for the entire family. Be sure to tune in or set your DVRs for Baby Shark’s Big Show! on Nickelodeon Fridays at 12:30/11:30c. Check out the trailer down below!
