Lin-Manuel Miranda Posts Loving Message After the Death of His Abuela On Christmas Day

During the holidays, one of the most important people we love to spend time with is our grandparents, mainly our abuelas. If we’re lucky enough to have our grandparents still in our lives, Christmastime is even more special. For Lin-Manuel Miranda this Christmas wasn’t the same. His abuela sadly passed away on Christmas day.
The playwright, who can usually write endlessly about anything couldn’t express more than saying this on Twitter: “Abuela Mundi passed away this Christmas morning. I may have more words in the days to come but for now my heart is in pieces and that’s where it’s gonna be for a bit.”

The Hamilton creator posted four beautiful black and white images of his abuela, including laying with her in her hospital bed. He also changed his Twitter profile picture to that of his grandmother.
In response, a fan wrote: “losing a family member, especially one that you’re close with, is never easy. the people you love the most surround you. hopefully you see this little thread and it makes you feel a little bit better.”
And Mayor of San Juan, Carmen Yulin Cruz, wrote: “Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Abuelas are a pice of the heart.”
Another wrote: “Lots and lots of love and strength for you all. May you cry all you need and laugh at the memories. We’ve all been there or will be. So we are here for you today as you have been for us even when you don’t know it.”
It’s no secret that Lin-Manuel’s family is something he cherishes and speaks of them often. Even actress America Ferrera said during an introduction: “His talents are no doubt God-given but his heart, his soul, his passion, his choice to celebrate life and bring us all along for the ride, can only be understood by knowing his family.”
