Lin-Manuel Miranda is having a very good week. Well, we should technically say that Miranda is having a very good two years, considering “Hamilton” celebrated its two year anniversary.

On Aug. 18th the very best in Latin entertainment gathered for the  32nd annual Imagen Awards in Beverly Hills, and Miranda was honored once again for his hit play, but most importantly for his immense contribution to the arts.

However, this recognition was unlike many other awards shows. The Imagen Awards honored Miranda and his entire family. The Mirandas were presented with the Imagen Foundation’s President’s Award for their humanitarian and artistic contributions.

Actress and activist America Ferrera presented the Miranda’s with the award, and she spoke about when she first saw Miranda’s “In the Heights.”

“My heart soaring to hear our music, to watch our faces, to see our story, a Latino story, on the Broadway stage,” she said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “I knew immediately I was witnessing a revolution…We’ve all probably asked ourselves, where does genius like that come from? His talents are no doubt God-given but his heart, his soul, his passion, his choice to celebrate life and bring us all along for the ride, can only be understood by knowing his family.”

Miranda’s acceptance speech was really heartwarming, especially the way he spoke about his success and attributed it all to his family.

“Things like ‘Hamilton’ don’t happen alone,” he said. “If your mother is a psychologist and your dad is in politics, you write ‘Hamilton.’ That’s the recipe for that. It’s pretty simple.”

On the red carpet, Miranda told Variety about the importance of Latinos in the arts.

“We need more work, we need new work, we need all those writers writing,” he said. “I’m thrilled when work at the highest level is being produced with Latinos in mind both in front of and behind the camera.”
