On June 23, some residents of Palm Beach, Florida, were enraged that the city would be forcing people to wear a mask in public. Yes, we’re talking about the same Florida where Gov. Ron DeSantis first boasted about having very low coronavirus numbers, and now we’re seeing a huge surge in cases. You would think people in Palm Beach would be praising their local officials for wanting to keep them safe against the virus — but nope, some people went off.

During the meeting with Palm Beach County commissioners, a few people scolded the officials about why they shouldn’t be forced to wear masks in public. One unnamed woman sounded like a complete fool.

“You literally cannot mandate somebody to wear a mask knowing that that mask is killing people. It literally is killing people. And the people, ‘we the people’, are waking up.”

We don’t know what study she’s referring to, but masks — if worn correctly — are not killing people. The reality is, masks help to minimize the exposure of the virus to other people. It’s working to contain the spread, but if people refuse to wear them, infections will go up. This woman, however, was on some conspiracy high horse that sounded incredibly familiar to those that support President Donald Trump.

Now, do get us wrong. We are all for speaking your mind and expressing oneself freely — but statements like these are simply incoherent and untrue.

“Every single one of you that are obeying the devil’s laws are going to be arrested,” she said. She then added that people forcing others to wear masks will be “punished by God.” She ended her fiery speech by asking some very important questions such as “What happened to Bill Gates? Why is he not in jail? Why is Hillary Clinton not in jail? Why are all of these pedophiles that are demanding you all to listen to their rules, why are they not in jail? Oh, is it because you’re a part of them? Are you a part of the deep state?”

Interesting. Perhaps her passion wasn’t so much about masks but rather critical questions asked by uneducated people. This lady wasn’t the only one to sound crazy. There were others too.

Thankfully, the Palm Beach County commissioners voted 7 to 0 to require people to wear masks in public and perhaps save the lives of all their residents, even the nutty ones.

We should add, for anyone reading this that is anti-mask, here is the direct guideline by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) — real experts — about the importance of wearing masks

“We now know from recent studies that a significant portion of individuals with coronavirus lack symptoms (“asymptomatic”) and that even those who eventually develop symptoms (“pre-symptomatic”) can transmit the virus to others before showing symptoms. This means that the virus can spread between people interacting in close proximity—for example, speaking, coughing, or sneezing—even if those people are not exhibiting symptoms. In light of this new evidence, CDC recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies), especially in areas of significant community-based transmission.”
