Last year was undoubtedly the year of Pedro Pascal thanks, in part, to the massive success of the The Last of Us series, and now he’s set to light up the big screen. Last year he made Emmy history last year becoming the most-nominated Latino in a single year with three noms and it seems this year she’s going to have more opportunities to make history in entertainment. While the Chilean American actor is already set to appear in films like Drive-Away Dolls and Gladiator 2 this year, Marvel has announced that his next project will be the upcoming film The Fantastic Four, where he’s confirmed to star as Reed Richards, a.k.a. Mr. Fantastic. He will appear alongside other A-listers like Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm/the Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm/the Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm/the Thing). The studio has also shared that the film is slated to hit theaters on July 25, 2025, Variety reported.

“From our family to yours 💙💙💙💙 #TheFantasticFour, in theaters July 25, 2025 #AllYouNeedIsLove,” Pascal said in an Instagram post announcing the news, along with a fun Valentine’s Day-themed graphic.

The Fantastic Four franchise has had a long and varied history. The first film iteration of the comics came out in 2005 and starred Ioan Gruffudd, Chris Evans, Michael Chiklis, and notably Jessica Alba, who is of Mexican descent. A second reboot was released in 2015 starring Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, and Jamie Bell, which was a critical and commercial failure. However, this will be the first time that Marvel will be heading the production, as Disney bought the rights to the story and characters in their deal with Fox in 2019.

Marvel has yet to release any information about this film’s storyline or villain, though fans can likely expect the basic premise to remain the same. In the comics, the four characters start out as a group of astronauts who become superheroes after being exposed to cosmic space rays. In the end, Reed Richards can stretch his body, Sue Storm can become invisible and cast forcefields, Johnny Storm can turn his body into fire and fly, and Ben becomes the Thing, a powerful being with super strength.

Directed by Matt Shakman and written by Josh Friedman, Jeff Kaplan, and Ian Springer, this is a film that we couldn’t be more excited about and to see Pascal in, especially since it’s such a major American film franchise. He will next be seen in Drive-Away Dolls and The Uninvited.

The Fantastic Four will hit theaters on July 25, 2025 and filming is expected to begin this summer.
