This year marks the 25th anniversary of the death of Selena Quintanilla. It’s a major anniversary that we know means a lot to fans. So, when the Quintanilla family announced earlier this year that the annual Fiesta de la Flor festival was officially canceled, we were a bit surprised. Why would the family cancel the festival this year, which would honor her legacy 25 years since she was tragically gunned down and killed? Now it looks as if the Quintanilla’s were planning something a bit more special instead.

Yesterday, the Quintanilla family announced they will be presenting a big concert to honor the legacy of Selena at the Alamodome in San Antonio on May 9. The show will include a star-studded lineup and will be at least 12 hours long.

“Over the past 25 years, her influence and relevance has only grown through the generations,” Suzette Quintanilla, Selena’s sister and CEO and president of Q Productions, said in a news release.

So far, the lineup includes Pitbull, A.B. Quintanilla III Y Los Kumbia All Starz, Becky G, Los Tucanes de Tijuana, Ally Brooke, Elida Y Avante, “El Gato Negro” Ruben Ramos, Pete Astudillo (an original member of Los Dinos), Gilbert Velasquez, Isabel Marie, and dance troupe The Lab. While those performers are great, we’re thinking that more entertainers will be added to the list in the coming weeks. We’re also wondering if all of those stars will be performing their own music or Selena covers. Perhaps it will be a mixture of both? We just can’t imagine Pitbull covering Selena’s songs. But we’re excited at the thought!

As we mentioned earlier, the Quintanilla family said in January that they would be canceling the Fiesta de la Flor festival that took place annually in Corpus Christi, Texas. The family didn’t disclose the reason why, but last year city officials raised concerns over the lack of funds that were being distributed to the Quintanilla’s. Despite the cancelation of the festival, fans have found ways to celebrate the life and music of Selena by hosting their own independent events
