Shakira Has the Most No. 1s on Billboard’s Latin Airplay in 2023
Shakira continues to dominate 2023 with her latest musical collaboration with Manuel Turizo
Shakira has been dominating all year and shows no signs of stopping. Her single “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53” was a hit and even broke multiple Guinness World Record including becoming the most viewed Latin track on YouTube in 24 hours with 63,000,000 views. The 46-year-old Colombiana also made history at the MTV awards when she became the first South American artist to receive the Video Vanguard Winner. Though she hasn’t released an album this year, her collaborations have been dominating the charts. Now with her latest single, “Copa Vacía,” her collab with Manuel Turizo she’s once again making history.
She extends her record for the most champs by a woman, with 20, and ties Jennifer Lopez’s No. 1 record by a female act in a single year in the history of the survey, both with four leaders. Shakira also now has the most No. 1s on Latin Airplay in 2023 among all artists, Billboard reported. This is also her fourth No.1 in 2023, the most for any woman this year. The three additional tracks she appeared on that peaked at No.1 are “Monotonia,” with Ozuna, “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53,” with Bizarrap, and “TQG,” with Karol G.
Shakira’s massive success this year comes in the wake of heartbreak after her relationship of more than a decade with soccer player Gerard Piqué ended after his infidelity. The mother of two has been open about music as a healing tool after the breakup, allowing her to channel her pain and anger.
“Music saved my life and gave me wings to fly,” Shakira previously told People en Español. “It allowed me to be myself; it rescued me from the most difficult moments. It connected with who I really am when I felt lost. When I couldn’t recognize myself, music was my mirror.”
Next up for the Barranquilla-born icon is a new album and a global tour in almost 12 countries across Latin America, North America, the United Kingdom, Europe, and the Middle East, she shared with Billboard. These will be her her first album and tour since 2017’s El Dorado and her 2018 tour.
“From there, my music has also taken new flight, and I suppose that’s the way life compensates. You subtract on one end and add on the other. It’s pure mathematics,” Shakira told Billboard. “In my ninth life, I’ll tell you what the total is.”
