When people think of making money while traveling, they conjure up images of curated Instagram profiles and celebrity status. Well, I’m here to tell you that you don’t need either of those things if you want to make money while traveling the world — it’s 2018, and there has never been a better time for making your dreams a reality! In fact, if you’re looking to be a world-traveling nomad, all you need to do is follow these 4 bits of advice:

Build an ecosystem of support.

Let’s face it, not everyone is going to understand your burning desire to travel nor will they encourage you to follow your work-abroad dreams, which is why it’s up to you to build your own network. A great way to start your journey is by attending a digital nomad conference like 7in7 , being held in Colombia later this year, where you can network with and learn from people who’ve already been living the life. And while Facebook has been getting a bad rap lately, I can’t overstate how great it is for community building. Facebook groups are a great place to ask questions, find work and get advice on the nomadic lifestyle. Get your travel questions answered in groups like Travel Latina and pay a visit to Female Digital Nomads or Digital Nomad Girls ,where you can commiserate with women who understand what you’re doing and who’ll support you in your journey.

Find a remote job.

If you’re going to sustain yourself while you travel, you’re either going to need to have money saved up or have a job that lets you work remotely. There are many ways to go about making money while traveling: you can find a seasonal job abroad, search on job boards for remote or work from home jobs, or you may even be able to convince your boss to let you work from home. Don’t think for a minute that being some sort of social media influencer is the only way you’ll be able to see the world, although that’s a valid option as well.

Have a Plan.

I’m impulsive adventurous, and I’m not ashamed to admit that I haven’t always been on top of planning things out…but I have learned my lesson! You don’t need to stress yourself out, but make sure you do your basics and research transportation options, read up on your upcoming destinations and find ways to make your money stretch while you travel. Your travels will be much more sustainable and less stressful for you when you spend time planning things out.

Keep your cool.

Making a career or lifestyle transition isn’t always going to be easy, but keep a level head and you can do it. More and more companies are becoming amenable to the idea of letting their employees work from home and the stigma of being a solo female traveler is being challenged on the daily. Women are out here reclaiming their time, and if you want to devote your time to travel and achieving work-life balance, there are resources out here to help you do just that.
