America Ferrera Continues To Diversify TV With New Series Featuring All-Latinx Cast

If you’re thinking prime-time TV is a too white-washed for your viewing needs, you’re right

If you’re thinking prime-time TV is a too white-washed for your viewing needs, you’re right. That’s why we’re all glued to the internet for the real shows.

A cool new sitcom to add your binge-watching sessions comes courtesy of none other than America Ferrera. Early this year at the Sundance Film Festival, Ferrera presented Gente-fied, a digital show which she serves as Executive Producer.

The show takes place in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Boyle Heights and tells the story of seven individuals: all complex, all completely hilarious, and all Latinx.

Hilarious, right?

When asked if she could relate to this kind of series as a Latina, Ferrera told People: “When I read the scripts, I felt as a Latina-American that I was always sort of torn between identities as an American, someone who adapted and was pushed to adapt to American culture but also I had roots engrained in a culture that was at home. I think that will appeal to a lot of people, not just Latinos but anyone from families where there is conflict of identity.”

We feel you, girl!

The show’s creative team consists of writer and director Marvin Lemus, a young, Mexican-Guatemalan American, and co-writer Linda Yvette Chavez, who is Mexican-American.

We seriously cannot wait!
