A Producer Told María Celeste Arrarás She Couldn’t Go to Puerto Rico With Celebs

Puerto Rican journalist María Celeste Arrarás planned to visit her native island along with other celebrities in what was supposed to be a joyful time with the victims of Hurricane Maria. As we told you yesterday, the trip did happen. Ricky Martin was there, as was Nicky Jam, Luis Fonsi, Chayanne, and Emilia and Gloria Estefan. But Arrarás was not.
The celeb trip to Puerto Rico was the idea of producer Tony Mojena. He got the Jet Blue plane filled with celebs on a flight called la ‘Preciosa’ and Arrarás was invited to be part of the group to visit Puerto Rico. All of that changed, supposedly, because Arrarás talked about the trip, which was reportedly supposed to be a secret.
In an Instagram post, she wrote: “It is with great regret that I announced that on Monday I will not be traveling on the “Preciosa” flight of humanitarian aid to Puerto Rico for which I had been invited, like many of our brightest stars such as @chayanne, Nicky Jam @gloriaestefan, ricky_martin and @luisfonsi. Unfortunately the producer @tonymojenaentertainment decided at the last minute that I was not part of this meritorious effort. As I was informed he was annoyed because I answered questions from the newspaper El Nuevo Dia about this nice project, which by the way already had been disclosed through a press alert. It was not a secret. I am extremely saddened by that decision because of the great eagerness I have to get to Puerto Rico to share with my people. Nothing will stop me to bring support and resources to my compatriots. My commitment to #puertorico is unshakable.”
It was in that interview with El Nuevo Dia that Arrarás had said: “We all go, not as celebrities, but as Puerto Ricans. We are all touched, affected and supportive for what our people are going through, we have a sentimentality that tears us up because we do not know what else to do to help.”
People en Español asked Arrarás if she wanted to give more information about the situation, to which she said: “I would gladly do it, but I do not want to give a forum to small, overbearing people with giant egos. I do not want to divert attention from what really matters that is the great need that exists in Puerto Rico. That is paramount.”
