‘The Craft’ Remake Is Having an Open Casting Call for Transgender Latinas
In March, we told you that a remake of The Craft was in the works
In March, we told you that a remake of The Craft was in the works. Now we’re here to let you know that you now have a chance to be in it. The film — about four young women who bond over their attraction to witchcraft — was first released in 1996 and will be remade by director Zoe Lister-Jones. Casting agents are currently in need of four women, one of them being a transgender Latina. As we said before, this film will be more diverse than the first. If you recall the 1996 film had only one woman of color. This new film promises to be more inclusive, and we’re glad to see them keeping to their word.
Here’s what Blum House productions are looking for: the role is a 17-year-old transgender Latina, but the person auditioning needs to be 18 or older. The character’s name is Lourdes, and she’s a teen “punk rocker” that is “the second member of the clique.” Lourdes sounds like the character played by Fairuza Balk. If you remember she is was the goth teen with the strict mother. Lourdes also has a strict “super-Catholic mother” who threw her out for being trans, and she now lives with her 80-year-old abuela, who has taught Lourdes a variety of supernatural practices.” The role sounds so good! People interested in auditioning for this role should email casting@blumhouse.com and should include name, location, a photo, and contact information.

If you have what it takes, we urge you to email casting directors. We talk so much about inclusiveness and representation of Latinx in the media, and this is our way of helping to make that happen. Now it’s on us to put ourselves out there.
While fans are eager to see a new cast and a fresh take on The Craft, lovers of the original film should be relieved to know that the remake will include lots of throwbacks to the 1996 film.
Doug Wick, one of the producers of the new film told Entertainment Weekly that, “there will be callbacks to the original movie, so you will see there is a connection between what happened in the days of The Craft and how these young women come across this magic many years later.” He adds that the film will be more like a sequel, which we are so excited to know.
“Here are some young women who once again discover the power of magic, and we explore their emotional lives, their wants, their fears, their longings, as they become empowered. So you know, the same way you use a war movie to explore the psyche of men, you get to create a heightened world to explore the psyche of these women. And so that seemed like an opportunity that was ripe and a way to make a movie that would be very much about now. And of course, part of that was just finding a talent that felt like enough of a real talent that you’d really be interested in her interpretation of this kind of story now, and of course, Leigh is exactly that.”
