A Family Favorite Holiday Dish: Cheesy Green Chile Chicken Bake with Sargento® Cheese

The holidays are finally here and it’s time to celebrate with families and friends! One of Ariana’s go-to holiday dishes is a Cheesy Green Chile Chicken Bake made with Sargento® 100% Real, Natural Cheese. Ariana loves using Sargento® Sliced Colby-Jack Cheese and Sargento® Block Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese for this dish because it adds a wonderful melt and flavorsome taste her kids enjoy.

Creamy Green Chili Sauce:

  • 1 lb green chile
  • 2 poblano chile
  • 5 tomatillo
  • ½ white onion
  • 2 garlic cloves 
  • Bunch of cilantro (about 1 cup)
  • 2-3 cups chicken broth
  • 1 block cream cheese (softened)
  • 2 tbsp chicken bouillon
  • ¼ tsp cumin
  • ¼ tsp Mexican oregano
  • Sprinkle of black pepper



  • Place the green chiles on an oiled skillet for 8 minutes flipping throughout.
  • Then add your tomatillos and onion to the oiled skillet for about 5 minutes to add a little char 
  • Let them cool and then place all the roasted ingredients into a blender with the cilantro, garlic, chicken broth, chicken bouillon, cumin, oregano, black pepper and softened cream cheese.
  • Blend until it’s a smooth consistency
  • Next, combine all your spices and mix.
  • Slice your chicken breasts in half and cover them in the spice seasoning.
  • Add oil to the skillet and sear the chicken on each side.
  • Take your chicken out of the skillet and place into a baking dish
  • Now pour your creamy blended sauce on top of your chicken
  • Shred your block of Sargento® Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese.
  • Cover the top of your chicken with Sliced Colby-Jack, then top with the shredded sharp cheddar.
  • Cover with foil and cook at 350 degrees for approximately 20 minutes.
