Is This Statue Baby Jesus or Phil Collins?

As Christmastime nears, people are taking out their Nativity scene and getting Baby Jesus ready for the festivities. In Latin America, Baby Jesus is practically the equivalent of Santa Clause. At least one church in Mexico is seeking to have the best Christmas ever by erecting what could be the biggest Baby Jesus in the world. There’s one small problem, though. Their Baby Jesus looks just like international singer Phil Collins.

La EpifanÍa del Señor church in Zacatecas, Mexico, is attempting to break a Guinness World Record for their Baby Jesus statue, which reportedly is a 22-foot-tall, 2,000-pound work of art. As we mentioned, however, the sculpture hilariously resembles the singer.

A picture of the statue has gone viral on social media after people commented on its uncanny resemblance to the former Genesis singer. People took this moment to make the connection between the chosen one and the best Phil Collins’ songs.

One twitterer posted, “I don’t know if something’s in the air tonight, but this Baby Jesus looks a lot like Phil Collins.” Another person said they would be willing to trade in Baby Jesus for this Phil Collins look-alike during Christmas. “I’d buy a nativity scene set just to replace baby Jesus with baby Phil Collins.”

Rev. Humberto Rodriguez, head of La EpifanÍa del Señor church, said he sought to fill the vast space of his church and wasn’t seeking to break a world record because of its size. It was only after the statue arrived that he began to research if they had the biggest Baby Jesus statue in the world. The notion that the figure looks like Collins is an unfortunate coincidence.

“There is a space of between 26 feet between the ceiling and the floor, and I ordered a statue measuring 21 feet, but I never intended to make it the biggest baby Jesus statue in the world,” Rodriguez said, according to the New York Post.

As images and videos on Twitter show, their Baby Jesus statue is, in fact, massive. However, the coincidence that it also looks like Collins just makes the figure even that much more special.

We do not doubt that locals and Mexicans around the country will make the trek to see this massive statue in person. But now that the public knows that there’s a giant baby statue that also looks like one of the most popular singers in history, well, now this church in Mexico will have visitors from around the world.
