No One Understood the 2026 Met Gala Theme Quite Like Bad Bunny

Here's why it's one of the night’s most on-theme looks

Leave it to Bad Bunny to show up to the 2026 Met Gala in one of the night’s most on-theme looks. The Puerto Rican superstar turned heads with an appearance that left him nearly unrecognizable. Dressed in a black pussy-bow blouse layered under a wrap blazer and paired with black trousers, it was the costume makeup and prosthetics—created by makeup artist Mike Marin—that truly defined the look, transforming him into an old man. He even accessorized with a cane.

The theme of the night was inspired by the museum’s “Costume as Art” exhibition, with a dress code of “Fashion is Art.” The exhibition celebrates the body at all its stages and its relationship to fashion, and while many attendees honored the female silhouette—a choice that dominated the carpet—Benito took things a step further by specifically spotlighting the aging body.

“Perhaps reflecting our fear of having to face our own mortality, the youth-oriented fashion industry has traditionally ignored the aged body,” reads a text in the exhibition catalog.

“This day of the Met is a perfect day to explore and be creative and express yourself in a different way, so that’s what I’m doing tonight, and I’m glad to be here with you and everyone here,” he shared in an interview.

This wasn’t surprising, considering Bad Bunny has proven year after year how seriously he takes the Met Gala. From the 26-foot floral train paired with a white suit and backless blazer he wore in 2023 to his 2025 look, which paid tribute to Puerto Rico—pava hat and all—he’s shown that he understands the assignment and knows how to make an entrance. As impressive as these looks have been, this year may be his most conceptually aligned yet.
